Shadow Minister for Communications Rowland offered New Year Greeting to Australian Nepalese

On the eve of Nepali New Year, Michelle Rowland MP, Federal Member for Greenway Shadow Minister for Communications extended a warm greeting to the Nepalese community in Australia as they all set to celebrate the new year 2079 B.S.

She said, “It is a time for new beginnings, where observants welcome health and prosperity for the year ahead. The first day of the new year in particular focuses on celebrating peace, generosity, and kindness. The Nepalese community in Australia contribute immensely to Australian society and our economy, with skilled professionals and talented students coming to this great nation for work and education alike.”

She further thanked the Australian community of Nepali heritage for their ongoing contributions to everyday life across Australia. She concluded, “On behalf of our Greenway electorate, I would like to wish the Nepalese diaspora a Happy Nepali New Year!”

The New Year 2079 is also known as Bikram Era which was named after Emperor Vikramaditya. He used lunar months to celebrate a new year in his regime.
