On the auspicious occasion of Buddha Jayanti 2566, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha. Nepalese Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba delivered his speech at Buddha Jayanti event held in Lumbini to celebrate this year’s Buddha Purnima. Indian Pm Modi said, “I experience spiritual delight while in Nepal.”

The program kicked off with the national anthems of the two closest neighbours Nepal and India, Sayaun Thunga Phulka and Jana Gana Mana, respectively.

While welcoming his Indian counterpart he said, “I’m extremely happy today to welcome PM Modi to this sacred land of Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha – the apostle of peace. We are delighted to have the presence of PM Modi at this special ceremony in this sacred land. “I believe your special pilgrimage has further strengthened our friendship and cultural ties.”

Indian Prime Minister’s Address

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “India and Nepal’s growing closeness will serve humanity. The growing and strengthening friendship between India and Nepal will work for the benefit of the entire humanity amid the kind of global situation that is emerging today.”

He further said, “The devotion to Lord Buddha binds us together and makes us members of one family. Buddha is the embodiment of the collective understanding of humanity. From Sarnath, Bodhgaya, and Kushinagar in India to Lumbini in Nepal, these holy places are a symbol of our common heritage and shared values.”

He remarked, “Without Nepal, our Lord Ram is incomplete.”

Upon his arrival on the sacred land, the Indian Prime Minister said on Twitter that he was happy to be among the “Wonderful people of Nepal on the special occasion of Buddha Purnima.”

In Janakpur he said, “Without Nepal our Lord Ram is incomplete.’’

Prime Minister Modi on Monday signed 6 MoUs with his Nepalese counterpart Sher Bahadur Deuba in Lumbini.
