Surge of the Nepalese Community to Converge in Nepal Festival Melbourne 2022

Melbourne, The most-awaited Nepal Festival Melbourne 2022 is scheduled to be held on Saturday,10 September 2022 from 11:00 am onwards at Federation Square, Melbourne. The last round of preparation for the mega event with the slogan Celebrating Culture: Embracing Diversity is almost accomplished. It is organised by NRNA SCC Victoria and presented by Blueberry Real Estate.

Message from the NRNA Australia Vice President and Victoria State Coordinator Hari Khadka

Hari Khadka, the NRNA Australia Vice President and Victoria State Coordinator shares with Nepali News Portal in Australia “With my organising committee, I am very excited to welcome all the participants from the interstate Nepalese communities and the Nepalese audiences in Melbourne along with all those living in Melbourne who appreciate Nepalese art and culture. Our bottom line is to promote the Nepalese native food, costumes, and identity at the international level, extending helping hands to boost the tourism of Nepal, publicize the Nepalese inherent unity and harmony across the world, arouse the local people’s interest in tourism in Nepal, strengthen the collaborative venture between Australia and Nepal and familiarize the Nepalese of the second generation to our proud native identity and cultural heritage.”

He further said, “We are collaborating with Nepalese Embassy in Canberra, the Nepalese Consulate General Office in Victoria and other states, multicultural communities, and multicultural departments to achieve our goals. There will be massive participation of people from all walks of life.”

Showcase of Nepalese Art and Culture

Nepal Festival Melbourne 2022 event will be marked by distinguishing characteristics such as Ethnic Nepalese Dances, Multicultural Performances, Cultural Displays (the model of Kumari, the living goddess of Nepal, parades reflecting Nepalese costumes and culture), Live Music (The Iconic guest band from Nepal, Cobweb and Badri Pangeni, Elina Chauhan, etc.), and Dance, Roving Characters, Authentic Nepalese Cuisines such as (delicious momos) and Nepalese Food Stalls. The team has been actively and enthusiastically promoting the event for many weeks.

Post the formal program, the audience can have entertainment marked by songs, music, and dance to their heart’s content. The Cultural Coordinator Ram Gurung said, “The preparation for the cultural show is going in the right direction. At the Nepal Festival Melbourne 2022, the audiences can revel in music ranging from folk, cultural and pop genres. In addition, there will be dance performances that will flow a feel-good message to the community.”

The guests will include the Nepalese Ambassador to Australia His Excellency Mr. Kailash Raj Pokharel, representative from the Victorian Government, the honorary consular generals of different states, dignitaries, the NRNA Australia president, and State Coordinators representing different states.

Collaboration with Local Nepalese Community Organisations

The main attraction of the festival will be the morning cultural parade which is coordinated by Tara Gaire, the former President of the Nepalese Association of Victoria (NAV), and Didi Bahini Samaj President Jamuna Parajuli. They said that when the participants holding the national flag of Nepal and Australia take the cultural parade that reflects the Nepalese identity and spectacular fanfare to the parliament of Victoria, it will create an exciting and emotional moment for our community. The coordinator duo appealed to all to participate in the parade.

The coordinator of guest management Bom Yonjon said, “There will be a formal program after the parade which will be graced by the guest speakers and we would like to request all to welcome them with open arms and listen to their views regarding the Nepal Festival.”

When the participants holding the national flag of Nepal and Australia take the cultural parade that reflects the Nepalese identity and spectacular fanfare to the parliament of Victoria, it will create an exciting and emotional moment for our community.

The NRNA, SCC, Victoria’s signature event is the 6th edition of the biennial celebration. Nearly 45,000 spectators attended its 5th edition held in 2018 in the heart of Melbourne city and the 6th edition is expected to see more spectators.

Festival coordinator Khadka further said “We truly appreciate the valuable service of all respected stakeholders for our proud organisation’s continued growth and goodwill.  Special thanks are due to the Embassy of Nepal, Consular offices, community organisations, the kind sponsors, media, volunteers, members, artists, and everyone involved.”

Nepal Festival Melbourne 2022 will be jointly hosted by NRNA, Australia General Secretary Raju Adhikari, and NRNA, Victoria Secretary Ganesh Kandel.
