On Thursday morning, FIFA, the world’s highest governing body of football, decided to award Australia and New Zealand ‘2023 Women’s World Cup’ jointly.
The historic joint bid of the two biggest countries in Oceania outperformed rival Colombia by 22 votes to 13 at the FIFA Council meeting held in Zurich. From this edition, the biggest women’s sport on the planet will see the participation of 32 teams including the host nations.
It created the history that the 9th edition of Women’s World Cup will be the first FIFA Women’s World Cup to take place in the Asia-Pacific region.
According to the news sources the matches will be played in different Australian cities including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Newcastle, etc. Similarly, in New Zealand, the potential spectacular and competitive matches will be held in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch.
The Opening ceremony will take place in New Zealand and the closing ceremony or grand finale will be staged in Australia.
