Sydney, One year after his appointment as the Nepalese Ambassador to Australia, His Excellency Mahesh Raj Dahal paid an official visit to New South Wales, the oldest state in Australia. In course of his two-day visit, he held meetings with the high-ranking officials of NSW government.
He stated, “During my official visit in NSW, a wide-ranging discussions were held with the high-ranking eminent officials of the government on the subject of bilateral diplomatic relation. The government officials are positive about the collaboration between the various states of Australia and the states of Nepal which has recently adopted the political system of federalism. Discussions were also held on local government, trade, education, and the way to bring investment to Nepal.”
He added, “In Australia NSW being the state where the largest population of Nepalese origin resides, the NSW government officials listened attentively to the issues and characteristics of Nepalese community.”
Also, present on the occasion was Honorary Consul-General of Nepal to NSW Deepak Khadka.
On the first day of the visit, the Nepalese team met Her Excellency, the Honourable Margaret Joan Beazley, Governor of New South Wales in Government House Sydney. The ambassador continued, “The discussion was focussed on the subject of the high-level visit of Nepal on the occasion of 60th anniversary of the diplomatic relation between Nepal and Australia to further the bilateral relationship in a more significant way.”
In the meeting with Thomas Frederick Bathurst, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of New South Wales, and Sydney City Councillor Robert Kokon on Thursday, there was a discussion about making the Australian cities establish relation of sister-cities with Nepalese cities.
He also met Joseph La Posta the Chief Executive Official, Multicultural NSW, the host of the luncheon. In the meeting, there was a bilateral discussion about the participation of emerging Nepalese community at the different levels of the state and access to the community grant. In addition, there was a discussion regarding offering working holiday visas to Nepalese.
HE Dahal shared with Nepalese Australian that the next meeting of the visiting team was with the President of the Legislative Council, John Ajaka, Speaker of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly, the Honourable Jonathan O’Dea MP regarding the parliamentary practice and the bilateral visits.
On 20 November, the second day of the visit Nepalese team met Hon John Barilaro MP, Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW, Minister for Trade and Industry. In the meeting, there was a fruitful discussion about the trade between the two countries and increasing the Australian investment in Nepal.
Honorary Consul-General of Nepal to NSW Deepak Khadka remarked, “This visit has been very significant in the direction of consolidating the relation between Nepalese community and the government of New South Wales.”
