Canberra – United Football Club (UFC) wins the one-day 11-A Side football Championship “4th S&S and Right & Associates Nepal Embassy Cup 2022” held on 5th September at the Australian Institute of Sports (AIS) football ground, Canberra. In the title match, the Melbourne giant UFC beat the Sydney powerhouse football club Saint George Nepalese Club (SGNC) 2-0.
The “11 ‘A’ side matches” played under the ‘league cum knockout format’ was participated by 16 teams from different states including the home team. The teams were divided into 4 groups each containing 4 teams. The top two teams from each group qualified for the knockout round. All equally competent teams tried their best to perform competitively with a fair degree of professional qualities and superb display of sportsmanship.
The winning team UFC was awarded the winner’s trophy, medals, certificates, and prize money of $ 4000, and the runner-up team was awarded medals, certificates, and prize money of $2,000. Shiba Giri of SGNC was adjudged the best defender. The UFC stars Santosh Tamang won the best midfielder, Darshan Gurung won the highest scorer, and the best player and Bibek Adhikari bagged the best goalkeeper award. Fair Team Award was won by Khukuri FC.
H.E. Kailash Raj Pokharel, the ambassador of Nepal to Australia was the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the competition which was chaired by the CNFC president Suraj Poudel. The former CNFC president Ashish Sapkota played a technical and managerial role. Throughout the event, Chudamani Sapkota, Sulav Pokharel, Nabin Dahal, and Bhabindra Tilija served as volunteers. The trophies and individual awards were given away by H.E. Kailash Raj Pokharel, the ambassador of Nepal to Australia, and other dignitaries.
Significant numbers of football lovers turned up to see the highly exciting and competitive football matches. The club extended thanks to all participating teams, sponsors, volunteers, guests, and amazing supporters and audiences.
